Arles, plus grande commune de France métropolitaine en superficie, offre une condition singulière : un centre historique contenu dans ses remparts et un territoire extramural vaste — zones humides, terres agricoles, quartiers populaires, traces industrielles et sites reconvertis.

Les thématiques seront précisées à partir des contributions des participants et pourront inclure :

Seuils & Marges

Intérieur / extérieur — limites civiques — territoires hors les murs — paysages productifs — friches et reconversions industrielles.

Eau & Projection

Écologies deltaïques — crues lentes — futurs insulaires — cartographie spéculative — rendre visibles des conditions à venir.

Matière & Déplacement

Brique et pierre — extraction et transformation — déplacement des monuments — replantation — greffe — réemploi et adaptation.

Diversité & Indigénéité

Homo- et hétérogénéité — espèces indigènes et invasives — migrations biologiques et humaines — conservation et transformation.

Héritage & Temporalité

Agir dans des durées que l’on n’habitera pas — planter pour des futurs invisibles — infrastructures du soin — permanence et retrait.

D’autres thématiques proposées par les participants sont les bienvenues.

La répartition des thèmes entre les sessions sera définie après réception des candidatures.

ELa² 2026 investigates how to act at the edge — spatially and temporally.

Arles, the largest municipality in metropolitan France by land area, provides a unique condition: a historic centre within walls and an extensive territory beyond them — wetlands, agricultural land, working neighbourhoods, industrial traces and reclaimed sites.

Themes will be refined through participant contributions and may include:

Thresholds & Margins

Inside / outside — civic boundaries — extramural territories — working landscapes — reclaimed industrial land.

Water & Projection

Delta ecologies — slow flood — island futures — speculative mapping — visibility of future conditions.

Material & Displacement

Brick and stone — extraction and processing — relocation of monuments — replanting — grafting — adaptive reuse.

Diversity & Indigeneity

Homo- and hetero-geneity — indigenous and invasive species — biological and human migration — conservation and adaptation.

Legacy & Time

Acting within durations one will not inhabit — planting for unseen futures — care infrastructures — permanence and removal.
